26/03/2018Roger Mugridge 1934 - 2018
Billericay Chess Club have announced the death of Roger Mugridge, a long time member of Wickford and Billericay Chess Clubs as well as being Vice President of the League. Roger died on Friday 16th March 2018 in Basildon Hospital of a heart attack after being housebound with a broken hip for several years. Besides playing for his two clubs, Roger played in the North Essex daytime competition and the Southend Congress before illness restricted his play to his home. He will be missed. The funeral service was held at Basildon & District Crematorium on Friday 6th April.

01/03/2018Terry Field 1943 - 2018
Thurrock Chess Club have announced that Terry Field passed away at the age of 75 on Tuesday 13 February. The funeral was held at Basildon Crematorium on Thursday 8th March.

28/01/2018Ron Prickett 1936 - 2018
Thurrock Chess Club have announced that Ron Prickett passed away at the age of 81 on Friday 26 January. The funeral was held at Corbetts Tey Crematorium, Ockendon Road, Upminster, RM14 2UY on 26th February.

08/09/2017Hugh Tanton 1930 - 2017
Billericay Chess Club have announced the sad news that Hugh Tanton passed away on 14th August 2017 at the age of 86 following a serious heart condition.
Hugh was a long time member of Billericay Chess Club. He joined in 1989 and was the club’s Tournaments Officer for many years. Hugh was also a member of the county U120 team and the North Essex Daytime Competition from its first year until 2015. In his latter years, after he stopped driving, he continued to play chess at home against members of the Daytime league and Billericay Chess Club until this year. Hugh will be sadly missed by all at the club. The funeral took place at St John’s Church, Outwood Common Rd, Billericay CM11 2LE on 24th October.

01/08/2017The SCCU are celebrating their 125th anniversary with a 'North of the Thames' vs 'South of the Thames' match on 16th September 2017 at The Hall School, 23 Crossfield Road, Swiss Cottage, London, NW3 4NU and would like as many players as possible to be involved.
